Last week Thursday I did my first presentation in Germany at the Basta! conference in Frankfurt. I had a fully packed room and had a blast. Being one of the few English only sessions kind of made me to believe up front that I would only have a couple of attendees. Luckily for me that didn’t turn out to be the case. Attentive audience and interested in what I had to say and show. I got a good interaction and was able to make the German audience laugh on several occasions. Not sure if that happens a lot but I found it a positive indication.

After the session I also got a question about chatbots as I mentioned it during my presentation that I’m currently working on one at my client (Bing spellchecker, LUIS, Watson). He introduced me to his manager and I had a lengthy talk about the subject with them about chatbots, data privacy, differences for freelancers/organizations between Germany and Belgium. Later on I saw some of the attendants of my session and asked for some feedback. They liked the session a lot and wanted to install Visual Studio Code and give it a spin. Mission accomplished! All in all I had a blast during Basta!

2017 already is going to kick off with presentations. Besides Microsoft Cloud Summit I’m also going to speak at the Basta! conference in Frankfurt Germany. This time about Visual Studio Code. I hope to see you there. It’s the first time I’ll be speaking in Germany so I’m looking forward to the adventure.

It’s not the first time I speak in the Netherlands but I was happy to get asked again by the organizational team to come back this year. Unlike the year before when it was in The Hague, this year the venue was in the larger RAI building in Amsterdam. A lot of attendees showed up. From what I heard from the people at Microsoft Netherlands it was a record amount and they didn’t expect that many people showing up in the first place.

The session itself about Azure Web Jobs, same like what I gave the day before in Poland, went great and I had quite some attendees.

In the evening there was a cozy speaker dinner with climbing wall at XPirit.

Today I had the pleasure of giving a presentation about Azure Web Jobs at a nice conference in Poland. It was well organized in a good hotel close to Gdynia. For me it was the first time ever I spoke, and been, in Poland. Attendees and hosts were all very nice people and I noticed a good amount of interest in Azure. I hope to be able to come back to talk more about Azure next year as well.

As a personal note: it’s been my first time to Poland and I really enjoyed it. I’m already thinking of going there on a short holiday with the misses and get to know the country better next year.

Last week witnessed the gathering of Microsoft loving people in Belgium. There were 19 different nationalities at the venue in Mechelen based Kinepolis cinema center.

I was there myself as a speaker about Meteor.js.

Next Saturday I’ll be speaking at WebNextConf during its second edition. I spoke there in the past about Orchard CMS in 2012 as well.

This time I’m going to be talking about gulp.js. It’s a great tool that once setup can save you as we (web)developer quite some valuable time and keyboard strokes. Best of all, it also ships with Visual Studio 2015 templates for ASP.NET 5.

The purpose of this session will be to explain what gulp.js is, going through the api it exposes. I’ll be presenting an introduction and some key takeaways to get up and running at work or your hobby project from preprocessing Less to automatically refreshing your browser.

I hope to see you there.

A lot of Belgian, and this year also a Dutch, user groups are having several sessions. The agenda can be found here: http://www.communityday.be/cd/tabid/130/Default.aspx. And yes that’s right, my name’s also on the list Smile.
