Just noticed this one on the blog of Brad Abrams: Silverlight 2 Developer Poster. Always nice to have such very visual representation of the possibilities of a new technology.

Today I was one of the people that stood on the "Ask the expert" booth at Techdays Belgium 2008. It was the first time I did this and I really enjoyed it. If Microsoft would ask me again I would be happy to help them out again on the next occasion. The fun thing was that I got to know a lot of new people, even at the booth itself. This is something I really enjoy, talk to people, get to know new people, interact and share ideas/views with them on technology.

I also got the chance to help people out with their particular questions just like I would on the ASP.NET forums but this way it's more direct of course because you're talking to the person right in front of you. I found it a bit strange though that one of the askers was creating ASP.NET applications for quite some time but didn't found out about the ASP.NET dedicated website. I showed the wealth of information that can be found over there and he really enjoyed seeing that and immediately wrote down the url. The most asked question however seemed to be this one: "When is the Entity Framework shipping date?". That was also the one we couldn't answer at our booth unfortunately.

You can already start downloading the MIX08 sessions. I just finished watching the keynote and boy am I looking forward to Silverlight 2 final edition. Also the new capabilities of IE8 are looking very promising and I bet every web developer/designer is really looking forward to the support of CSS2.1 in it. Hopefully Microsoft decides to push IE8 to every windows installation as soon as possible after the final release so we can get rid of IE6/7 incompatibilities and CSS hacks just to get it to work.

I downloaded the documentation of the new Silverlight 2 Beta 1. When I tried to open it, after a successful download was this:

Ok.... not really what I expected to see. After some asking around I found it thanks to this post. Apparently you have to open Windows Explorer and open the Properties window and push the Unblock button:

And afterwards I was very happy to see this:

Happy reading for this guy and I hope for you the same.

It's MIX and that always means great stuff coming to web developers. This year it's the ASP.NET MVC Preview 2 and Silverlight 2. Great times are ahead of us.

Since a couple of weeks I changed my IDE at work from Visual Studio 2005 to Visual Studio 2008 Team System for developers. We still target the .NET 2.0 framework but from what we found out, Intellisense in VB.NET has improved a lot. Since this morning I'm also using a new theme for Visual Studio since my collegue told me that he found it to be much better for his eyes. Scott Hanselman wrote a while ago about different available themes, and the one we took (several of my collegues started to use recently) is this one. I'll be testing it for a while to see if it's indeed better for my eyes.

Oh yes, it's always best to backup your current setting before trying out a new one. I wrote an article on how to do this in the past: Exporting and importing Visual Studio 2005 settings.

Scott Guthrie has written an exhaustive series of articles of the upcoming Silverlight 2. I guess this is the version the majority of developers is waiting for. Take a look here to find out about what's coming to you. I'll also be looking at it when I get back home from work this evening.

Just launched on the ASP.NET website: the ASP.NET wiki. Take a look at it and see if you can contribute. Also take a look at the publishing guidelines.
