And another year, a great year, has passed. I’ve been reawarded as MVP, went to the US where I was able to drive around for a week and see the Grand canyon, Monument valley, Bryce canyon, Death valley, Las Vegas. A month later I visited the Middle East (Lebanon) where during my vacation I also gave a presentation about ASP.NET MVC 2. I got to know a lot of new and great people and learnt new things. All in all a great year.

This week the long awaited Silverlight 4 tools for Visual Studio 2010 got released. With it ships version 1 of WCF RIA Services.

Of course new technology needs some guidance and there’s a great training kit made available.

If you like to read books then I suggest you take a look at Microsoft Silverlight 4 Data and Services Cookbook, of which I’m a reviewer, and the book I’m currently reading: Microsoft Silverlight 4 Business Application Development: Beginner’s Guide.

My company Ordina gave me the opportunity to follow a 2 day course to become a Scrum Master. The course itself was given by Mitch Lacey who gave some great information about Scrum itself and gave the entire group, about 30+ attendees, several exercises to accomplish. These introduced people to think about solutions and create a group spirit. I liked this hands on approach a lot.

If you’re a bit like me you like to have a lot of keyboard shortcuts handy while coding in your favorite IDE, Visual Studio. In the past I blogged about cheat sheets for former versions of Visual Studio but I recently found out about documents for 4 different languages in Visual Studio 2010: C#, F#, VB.NET and C++.

Take a look here to download these.

Codeplex is a great resource to find all kinds of things developer related. One of the things I found recently were a bunch of snippets for jQuery to make life easier for developers using Visual Studio 2010. You can download them here.

I just found out about this free eBook which can be found for download here.

The book is not a language primer, a language reference, or a single technology book. It's a book that will help professional developers move from previous versions of Visual Studio (starting with 2003 and on up). It will cover the features of Visual Studio 2010 through an application. It will go through a lot of the exciting new language features and new versions of the most popular technologies without putting the emphasis on the technologies themselves. It will instead put the emphasis on how you would get to those new tools and features from Visual Studio 2010.

A long awaited arrival of Visual Studio 2010 came true today as Microsoft shipped the product. This is one version that I installed also during the alpha and beta periods to test out and provide feedback towards Microsoft about things that could be made better or bugs. I’m looking forward into using it as soon as possible at work as well.

You can read more about the announcement here: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2010/04/12/visual-studio-2010-and-net-4-released.aspx.

Yesterday I had the pleasure to deliver my first international presentation in Lebanon. The talk was about ASP.NET MVC 2 which got recently released topped with some jQuery. Since I knew that most people didn’t have hands on experience with MVC I made a more entry level presentation, explaining why it was introduced by Microsoft and what it was. Then I used several demos especially crafted to demonstrate some of the handy and powerful additions like data annotations and the interaction with jQuery validation, templated helpers, partial views, using a JsonResult together with jQuery to fill up html elements dynamically, …

For me it was a great experience and I got several felicitations from the spectators. I myself would like to thank Bilal Haidar for getting me into contact with the Lebdev user group and Samer Chidiac from Microsoft Lebanon for organizing this event at Berytech.

The slidedeck that I used can already be found on slideshare:
